Fire & Ice

Ca me fait drôlement plaisir.

Thanks Jocelyn for the inspiration!

new house

In one month, we will be moving into our own house !

Dale and I are very excited (and a little nervous "will there be something wrong with the house? will we pack everything at the last minute?"...etc) and we love imagining what we will make of this place. We'll make it our home, that's for sure and also a place for our friend Camille if she likes it.
In the meantime we call it "The Broccoli Patch".

Because a looong time ago, this part of the town was probably all farmland and they probably grew some hardy green right where the house got built.

I'll try to do some research on that, but in the meantime, here it is:

Cute, isn't it?

Thanks guys! you were right, it IS great to have a picture of it with the "SOLD" sign on it.

Victorian Dress Up...

One of the things I love about living in Canada is how much more fun we have at work. As opposed to my working experience in France...were everything had to be so serious, male chauvinists dominated and boring.
But let's talk about the good things !

On december 22nd, the Coop had organized a Victorian Christmas day. All the staff got their costumes at the capitol (courtesy of the Coop!) and we looked pretty awesome.

I remembered to take my camera with me that day, and here's what I got (just click on picture to go to play them all...)

You should have seen customers'reactions, "confused" for some of them but mostly a big smile. And that felt good.

body lotion

Finally!

After more than a month away from this blog, a come back to show you one of the many crafty activities that kept me busy.

The home made body lotion. Made with Mimi, first for ourselves and then for a Staff Craft Fair.

We used :
  • shea butter
  • coconut oil
  • almond oil
  • jojoba oil
  • orange blossom water
  • beeswax
  • vitamin E
and then we added vanilla, or grapefruit essential oil. It was a bit messy in the kitchen but so much fun ! And the result is a rich texture, which according to a friend could be called "elbow grease" because it would be perfect for dry skin areas.

Of course there is an issue with the picture I took...so you'll have to imagine.
Or ask me for a sample of either the grapefuit or the vanilla-chaï one!

zone-A

When Love Is Not Enough

Looking For Eric

Winter's Bone

About the colors

Last time I went on a photography trip with Mimi, it was the gloomiest morning we ever had in weeks.
No sun. None. Nada.
But that didn't stop us from taking lots of pictures. And with the digital one I took, I allowed myself to play a bit with afterwards.

And then, just taking a lot of "macros", well, I macro-ed the heck out of that holly tree.

I thought it could make a sweet postcard to send out for Christmas.

A few more

But this time, with less colors.

Next time, there will be more colors, way more.

Fog

Last week on our photography ritual we went to Apex, a cross country ski area just outside of Nelson.
I wished I would have been there 1 hour earlier, just to catch more contrast between sunny moutains and foggy valleys.
Oh well.

Since I don't go there in the winter season, a ladder under a tree seems very random to me whereas it might have a logic purpose for cross country skiers...
Who knows?

I hope you like a good old glare on the picture...
...because I do!

And completely unrelated to the fog of that morning, here are a few portraits taken downtown. I find it SO hard to take candid pictures of people, it is easier when you know the person. I was lucky enough to meet Ben, a coworker/friend of mine, on the day he was leaving for his hometown.
If that's not the look of a free man, then what is it?
Take care Ben, and enjoy what life has for you there.

And here's one of the cuttest couple of Nelson. After I took the picture, the woman waved at me with a big smile. I wish I knew their names.

Is it completely silly to be moved by old couple and especially by the fact that they are still holding hands after all these years?

photography with Myriam

Mimi and I get together once a week to capture early morning lights through our cameras.

The shores of the lake are perfect. We pack a good breakfast and we feel like the morning is stretching forever. It's quite awesome.

Learning to be patient with the clouds.

Paying attention to details.

playing with a tree's shape

Sharing the beach with local residents.

Our plan is to continue throughout the winter, adding layers and mitains as the thermometer goes down. And sipping hot tea.

In french we use the term "filé".
OK this is a filé on Mimi's boot...
but still!

See you soon!

Marcel The Shell (with shoes on)

I could not resist but share this video found on the web, directed by Dean Fleischer-Camp
it is so awesome I can hardly wait for another one.

Enjoy!

Sproule Creek

Bye!
