kids words

Have you heard of kid snippets?
It's basically short stories with adults comedians, but with kids voices.

The way it works is that they first record kids playing together and then make a video where adults act in the story.

And there are a lot more kid snippets on their youtube channel, good luck trying not to watch them all at once.

So, would you like a penguin?

Racines Corses

I don't know if my Corsican origins would be the reason why this song resonates with me so much, but it is my absolute new favourite:

I find it so moving to think about folk traditions that might get forgotten.
Also, I wish I knew how to properly whistle.

A New Journey Begins

The latest thing among others that keeps me busy is a collaboration with a friend on interviewing artists who live in our area, right in their studio space.

She's a full time potter and I have a fancy camera so I got very excited when she asked me to take pictures, while she would do the interviewing part.

As simple as this, and yet so much fun since I am free to make any kind of close-up still photography as I want and a few portraits too. It's a great practice for me.

You can see the first interview by Kalika Bowlby of the Artist Erin Prospero
 being featured right here.

The grass is always greener...

when you live in a small town!

I think we have everything we need here and yet
I sometimes wish there would be more choice
in terms of places to go, art exhibits and expressed creativity in general.
(I spent the first 27 years of my life in Paris so that probably doesn't help)

So whenever a creative person opens a little gem of a business,
I get pretty excited.

Such is my feeling when I go to the new flower shop named Bellaflora.

Her owner Kyla is sweet and talented.
I love her incredible eye for flower arrangements and decoration.

She taught a moss string plant workshop a few weeks ago.

My friend Myriam, my mum and I went there to learn...the ropes (that's right!)
about making these hung little planet looking plants.

All you need is a potted plant, some thick moss and a solid string.

Kyla taught us a lot of things that evening:

  • Plant care and their different needs (it can works for a succulent plant, an orchid, a begonia...etc)
  • Technique of square not / macramé
  • Technique of moss and plant arranging to make it look round and pretty.
  • how to make the best chutney ever to serve with her platers of cheese and fruits.

This is why I loved it so much:
  • I admire my plants everyday!
  • All of us had so much fun watching our creations!
  • They are baby proof!
  • I want to make more with my friends!
  • I now want more green in our house!

These pots are NOT baby proof but they will host some basil that I'm going to try to keep over winter...
...wish me luck.

the shop is situated
at 621B Herridge Lane
in Nelson B.C.

Leef Peeping

This morning 3 things happened simultaneously.

I was waiting to get my car at the mechanics,
while reading the Nelson Star cover article,
when I learned a new expression:

I like it.

I find this idiom funny too and I don't know if it's only because of how it sounds to my french ears.

Anyway, it made me want to finally edit some pictures I took last Sunday.

I was on my way to meet a friend and her new born, but we missed each other.

I'm still glad I went because I took these amazing shots of my beloved town.

This was made possible thanks to Chantal
and her amazing skills.

I am very excited about it,
Soon I'll have my brand new business cards and stamp
(watch out for me stamping everything
including my own hubby...what?)
which means I'll be able to ship away my designs!

There is an Etsy store
aaand a facebook page too.

Ok now I have to figure out how to put little permanent buttons on this blog...

Little ritual among friends

One of my favourite things in life is to take the time to sip some tea.
Simple, right?

It's even better when a friend comes over to share a cup.
(made by Kalika)

Usually I go for a yummy tasting tea,
either green tea _ turkish recipe (with date, rose and berries)
aka "the best tea in the whole world"
or herbal with camomile, orange blossom and linden blossom

But on a chilly autumn day,

My friend and I thought we could hang out
while drinking some healthy brew.

We went for a home made mix of reishi slices, red clover, astragalus...and linden blossom.
Way to boost your immunity, I tell ya'

Family visit and adventures

My mum and her partner came for a week visit.

it was the occasion to explore the surroundings
with new eyes.

Visit our dear friends from the Lardeau river

Grant & Leslie's place is welcoming and beautiful,
surrounded by wildlife,
it left us in awe.

I think they might come back to visit us soon...

Rivière Noire

There are so many talented people in the world,
it's overwhelming sometimes.

The last example is this song,
which leaves me dreamy and transported
each time I listen to it.

I now wished I could understand Portuguese and Bambara,
would anyone be able to translate the lyrics for me?

more photography!

I want to make more room in my life for photography.
I want to become better at it too.
The experience I gain from carrying my camera with me as much as I can is precious
It's even better when there is an actual occasion to take pictures. Such as a photo shoot for my workplace or for friends who need images of their artefacts or family events.

A friend asked me what was my favourite thing to photograph.
I have two.
One is still photography because I can manipulate the subject easily.

The other is portrait, more challenging but also more rewarding.

I think that these two preferences match my inclinations in life.
I love being on my own in a quiet still place, observing details.

I love scrutinizing people's expressions and seeing beauty in everyone.

I've been busy editing and I'm planning photo shoots in the next 2 weeks.

I'm pilling up work for this fall.
I don't feel overwhelmed yet,
just joyfully busy.

I hope yoga and meditation will help
my body to be responsive and my mind to stay present.
I'm surrounded by people willing to help me with both practices
and I feel very grateful for this.

Caroline

Caroline,
Your pale skin next to mine
At that time when
it was only a game,
among friends.

Caroline,
Our childhood memories.
Sweet mischiefs and innocence,
Imaginary worlds and complicity,

Could I have helped you?
Wasn't there anything they could do?
Could I have seen it coming?
I wish I could still do something.

But all I can do is keep you in my heart
And cherish these memories.

camping and other adventures

lots of camping packed in 1 week

 on highway #3

 with a sneaky squirrel

on the sunshine coast
aka most pristine & private rain forest campsite ever
For all of you BC folks it might be average,
but for the French woman I am,
it was outstandingly amazing.
I felt like in the jungle.

 jungle vegetation

All that discovered thanks to our friends getting married in Sargeant Bay Provincial Park.

The love was shared by their friends and family,
in such a genuine way,
it made our hearts sing for days.

And we're going to another wedding in september!
